I went to get a haircut the other day and noticed a new sign on the wall - CASH ONLY. I had to think about that while I waited. I intended to pay cash anyway as the paper bills in my pocket was what I had planned to pay with. I get it. Smart barber. Why give up 3%-5% if you don't have to.

The local merchants that hang signs that say NO CASH ACCEPTED are another matter. US Dollars are the Coin of the Realm. Our gov prints them for us to use in our daily transactions with others at no cost (we already paid the mint to print them for us). It is alarming that private corporations that issue credit have virtually hijacked our money system and positioned themselves between us and the merchants we buy things from. They take a % of every dollar we spend. It is not free as the merchant has to tack it onto the things we buy.
I can't help but think there is something nefarious going on with the big push to digital money. There is no doubt that there are both security and privacy issues involved. Do I really want every penny I spend being monitored (and controlled) by others? NO I don't.

I think we are kind of dumb to go along with this migration to digital money. But we do... it is a slow creep - hence it qualifies as a simmering frog issue.

What do you think? Am I the only frog simmering with this situation?
